The Social Service takes care of the members of the Jewish Community of Belgrade. Assistance is directed towards all categories of membership – children, the middle generation, and retirees in social need.

Through the Social Service of JOB, members in need have access to one-time and ongoing assistance, meal support, food and hygiene packages for the holidays of Passover and Rosh Hashanah, and care packages for the holidays of Hanukkah and Purim.

One-time and ongoing assistance

One-time and ongoing assistance is a program of the Jewish Community of Belgrade aimed at members who need help to overcome current or lasting difficulties.

In these situations, the most common need is assistance for settling utility debts and winter heating. The sick who do not have sufficient financial means are provided help for purchasing medications, paying for diagnostics and treatment, and buying medical aids.

Free meals

Free meals are assistance that we established more than ten years ago with the idea that no member of JOB should go hungry. The meals are intended for the most vulnerable members of our community.

Meals are prepared twice a week, and each delivery is intended for the next three days. The meals are varied, with a different dish prepared for each day. Each meal consists of soup, a main dish, salad, bread, and dessert.

Assistance in food and hygiene packages for the holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Passover

Through our long-time donor, twice a year, for more than 25 years, generous donations in food and hygiene packages have been provided for the holidays of Passover and Rosh Hashanah for the users of the social service.

Each donation reflects the current state and needs of the members, allowing for more than 80 packages and the same amount of kosher chicken meat for JOB members.

Care packages for the holidays of Hanukkah and Purim

At the suggestion of the social committee, in 2021 we started a program for distributing care packages for Hanukkah and Purim for users of the social service.

The gift packages contain fresh fruit, juice, coffee, sweets, and similar items, supplemented with traditional treats – donuts for Hanukkah and “Haman's ears” for Purim.

We want to encourage JOB members, if they are facing difficulties and believe that JOB can help them in their current situation, to contact the social service of JOB.
