Law on the removal of the consequences of property confiscation from Holocaust victims without living legal heirs
In February 2016, the Assembly of the Republic of Serbia adopted the Law on the removal of the consequences of property confiscation from Holocaust victims without living legal heirs. This made Serbia the first European country to adopt this law since 2009, when the "Terezin Declaration" was signed by 46 countries.
In June 2009, in the Czech town of Terezin, at the site of the former Nazi concentration camp Theresienstadt, 46 countries signed the "Terezin Declaration," in which the signatory countries express their intention to "rectify the consequences of illegal confiscation of property, as well as forced sales that accompanied the Nazi persecution of innocent people."
