The Women's Section of the Jewish Community of Belgrade invites you to join us for a meeting on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 18:00, in the premises of our Community, Kralja Petra 71a, in the hall on the second floor.
This time we have prepared a quality and interesting gathering with several engaging segments.
Dr. Zorica Mršević will hold a current lecture:
„Jewish Women as Female Judaic Pillars of Hope”
In Judaism, hope (tikva) has a deep spiritual and theological meaning. It is not just an emotional feeling of optimism, but expresses trust in God and His justice, as well as faithfulness to the Covenant with the people of Israel. Faith in Judaism is not abstract, but a living practice through which a person, with their hope and deeds, collaborates with God in repairing the world.
The lives of prominent women in Judaism are deeply connected to the concept of hope, as Judaism sees in them examples of faith, courage, and moral strength through which God's plan operates in the world. Ten Jewish and Israeli heroines of the 20th century will be presented, whose lives and works are particularly linked to hope and the concept of tikun olam (repairing the world). All were women of ordinary professions, but their contributions had profound ethical and social significance.
At the end, there will also be a discussion about the feminist seder as a contemporary reinterpretation of the Passover dinner.
Zorica Mršević is a retired scientific advisor at the Institute of Social Sciences, author of 24 books and over 400 scientific papers in the fields of violence theory, gender equality, women's human rights, and other marginalized groups, as well as criminology. She graduated, obtained her master's degree, and earned her doctorate at the Faculty of Law, University of Belgrade.
She worked for 8 years at the OSCE Mission in Serbia as a gender equality advisor. She was the Deputy Protector of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia (ombudsman) for gender equality. She currently teaches Gender Studies and the Phenomenology of Violence at the Faculty of European Legal and Political Studies.
