On Saturday, as part of the Mocaš club at the Jewish Cultural Center, the film Reality Bites was screened, one of the key works of the nineties.
This film became a symbol for young people entering adulthood after university, without clear guidance, facing an uncertain job market, changes in cultural trends, and the search for personal identity.
Reality Bites was significant because it openly portrayed the dilemmas of Generation X for the first time in contemporary culture – their fears, irony, rebellion, and desire to find meaning beyond imposed expectations. With flannel shirts, Mary Jane shoes, and an alternative pop-rock sound, the film became the voice of a generation, and Ethan Hawke, Winona Ryder, and Ben Stiller, at the height of their fame, became symbols of that era.
