Visit to the exhibition „Even in Slavery, Freedom! Serbian Art During World War II“ by Dr. Irina Tomić at the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU).
Nearly 300 exhibits from numerous museum institutions across Serbia (National Museum of Serbia, Museum of the City of Belgrade, MSUB, House of Legacies, Museum of Yugoslavia, Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski, etc.) are presented, featuring works by established artists from the interwar period (Paja Jovanović, Uroš Predić, Beta Vukanović, Petar Dobrović, Jovan Bijelić, Sava Šumanović, Zora Petrović, Đorđe Jovanović, Đorđe Andrejević Kun, Petar Lubarda, etc.), as well as young artists at the time (Majda Kurnik, Miloš Bajić, Vida Jocić, etc.) and amateurs from camps and battlefields.
The author demonstrated how all forms of art during the period of 1941–1945 depend on specific socio-cultural conditions. Not only artistic creation was addressed, but a cross-section of all relevant cultural-historical, cultural-anthropological, and sociological phenomena during the occupation of Serbia was also provided.
The goal of the exhibition is to provide an overview of all significant artistic phenomena that emerged during the occupation and as a consequence of it.
After the tour of the exhibition, socializing continues in the city.
Gathering at 1 PM - in front of Gallery SANU (Knez Mihailova 35)
