On Friday, July 10, starting at 11:30 AM, at the "Sukat Shalom" synagogue (Maršala Birjuzova 19), a new gathering will be held as part of the Golden Heart program.

This time we will watch the documentary film "Wonders of Humanity" – Episode 13: Italy: Synagogues of the Venetian Ghetto (2018), directed by Celia Lowenstein and Cécile Husson.

Venice is considered one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world, but it holds special significance for Jewish history – it is here that the first ghetto in the world was established.

Through a walk along the Venetian canals, literature professor Saul Basi guides us through the tumultuous history of his ancestors, who, fleeing persecution in Germany, founded a Jewish community and built synagogues, creating a community based on mutual respect and clearly defined rules.

The film also takes us to one of the five synagogues of the Venetian ghetto, where we attend a Bar Mitzvah ceremony led by the Chief Rabbi of Venice, Scialom Bahbout. Dedicated to preserving Jewish tradition and culture, Rabbi Bahbout strives to pass this rich heritage on to future generations.

After the screening, we continue the gathering with light stretching and breathing exercises with our Ljiljana, because – a healthy body is a healthy spirit.

At the end of the program, everyone who wishes can join us for a communal lunch.

We look forward to your arrival!
